Can I just say, it's been a really weird couple of years for me? So much so that details would probably be inappropriate – and I say that from a place of what your average overlord would call professionalism, not from any prudishness or shyness on my part. But I guess relationship issues are often weird. I've learned something: stability is good. I've learned something else: if you're used to instability, when you finally achieve that greatly-yearned-for stability, your mind can still be in instability-mode, which is incredibly stressful. We're getting too personal here, so we're going to switch the subject to the other pertinent issue: alcohol. Beer! I love beer. I make beer, sometimes. Well, it's been a while. But! Planning on making some soon, a rye IPA.
So, we've set the stage: beer-making and relationship issues. Love and alcohol. It could get confusing.
Hence, today's topic: the film Drinking Buddies, playing now at Village 8 Theaters as part of the Louisville Exclusives series. Luke and Kate (Jake Johnson and Olivia Wilde) are co-workers. They work at a Chicago brewery. They're also very good friends. Very flirtatious. They're also both in relationships – Luke going on six years with Jill (Anna Kendrick), who is ready to talk about marriage, and Kate with Chris (Ron Livingston). But, alcohol can make everything fuzzy, blurry...
Drinking Buddies is scheduled to play at Village 8 until Thursday, October 24. Village 8 is located at 4014 Dutchmans Lane. Further theater information and showtimes can be found at the Village 8 website.
