If bluegrass music played with a little punk energy is your thing, Whiskey Shivers will deliver that particular flavor at the New Vintage this Sunday.

The band formed in Austin, but features a lineup that literally represents the country from coast-to-coast. There are a lot of similarities with Old Crow Medicine Show, although their music strikes me as a little less mainstream-friendly with a few more quirks and an authentic old-timey feel in both the vocals and the instrumentals.

Frontman Bobby Fitzgerald sings and plays fiddle (Dundee, NY) and sports the finest mullet since Billy Ray Cyrus. He is joined by Andrew VanVoorhees on bass from Prineville, OR; Joe Deuce on washboards from Vider, TX; Guitarist and native son Jeff “Horti” Hortillosa from Middlesboro, KY; and James Bookert on banjo from Georgetown, TX.

Whiskey Shivers' latest release is a self-titled effort that came out last September. They will appear at the New Vintage on Sunday, April 12 at 8 p.m. along with Louisville band The Moonlight Peddlers. Tickets are $10 (18 and over show) and available from TicketFly or at the door.
